April M. - "... Although I was desperate to improve my health physically and mentally, I still thought all gym memberships fell into the same fateful category of over-rated, under-utilized and predictably hopeless. After all, I had tried numerous groups, activities and facilities in the past and the results always equated to eventual failure. Struggling with my own disability, I had given up on any chance for finding the right program.
MISSION STATEMENT
To put Christian principles into practice through
programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body
for all.
When I discovered the YMCA, my expectations dramatically changed because the outlook was different from the beginning. Literally walking through the door produced an encouraging, inspirational environment. This was not a typical work-out location or a building full of exercise equipment, and that realization was apparent immediately. Staff members were kind, generous and totally connected to producing individual motivation. I was in shock during the initial membership visit, wondering how such a wonderful facility could possibly exist and still doubting how I might transform my particular aspirations into reality. Following the sessions with a YMCA personal trainer, all fears about success levels completely diminished. I knew achievement was possible, and most importantly, there would be other caring professionals to guide the process. Basically, the opportunities for advancement are literally limitless to include classes, community projects, special events and other ongoing variety of philanthropic interests. I did not think it possible for an organization to do so much for so many, while maintaining such dedicated focus to each and every person. If there were an appropriate description for a place regardless of age, sex, ability, limitations, size, unique needs, or individual circumstances, it would have to be the YMCA. It is the only place where there is something for everyone and everyone is someone special. "
